Understanding Hart County Releases
A lawful release is a completed custody event. The Hart County Jailer’s admission and release records can show that event for a local jail stay. A person may go home on bond, recognizance, a court order, time served, or completion of a county sentence. A state offender may later leave prison on parole or mandatory reentry supervision. Probation differs because it is imposed by a court. Each path creates a different record, and some paths leave the person subject to court terms or community supervision.
Leaving Hart County Jail does not always mean entering the community. The person may have gone to another county jail, a Kentucky Department of Corrections institution, a medical setting, federal custody, or an agency acting on a detainer. A detainer is a request by another authority to hold or take custody of someone. The local roster can stop displaying the person in any of these situations. Confirm the destination and disposition before describing someone as released.
Hart County Release Types
The disposition field explains why physical custody changed. Bond or recognizance permits release while the case continues; neither means acquittal. Time served or sentence completion ends the custodial part of a sentence, though other court terms can remain. Dismissal or acquittal may explain the legal result, but the jail’s record supplies the actual processing time. Parole is conditional community release before a state sentence expires, while probation is a court-ordered disposition.
| Release or custody event | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Community release while the case continues | Jail discharge entry and Hart court docket |
| Time served or sentence completion | The custodial term ended | Final jail or DOC discharge record |
| Probation | A court disposition with community conditions | Court order and, when applicable, KOOL |
| Parole or mandatory reentry | State prison ended while DOC supervision continues | KOOL, Board action, and District 5 |
| Transfer or detainer pickup | Another authority took custody | Transfer destination and receiving agency |
Escape and death are also custody changes, but neither should be labeled a community release. A projected release date is only a calculation. Court changes, sentence credits, discipline, detainers, or corrections to concurrent and consecutive sentences can change it. Only the final discharge entry proves that processing was complete.
Hart County Release Record Fields
A useful Hart County release record identifies one person and one jail admission. It should tie the person to the admitting facility, booking number, custody dates, discharge authority, and destination. Name alone is weak proof because people can share names or use variants. Pair it with a date of birth, booking or inmate number, court case number, or other appropriate identifier.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name and second identifier | Connects the record to the correct person |
| Facility and booking number | Identifies the custody site and admission |
| Admission date and time | Marks the start of the jail stay |
| Actual discharge date and time | Confirms when physical custody processing ended |
| Discharge authority or order | Names the legal basis for the custody change |
| Release type or disposition | Separates bond, time served, court release, or transfer |
| Destination or receiving agency | Shows whether the person went home or stayed in custody elsewhere |
| Days confined | A field described in Kentucky’s closed jail register |
The Kentucky County Jailer retention schedule describes the closed jail register as recording when a person was discharged, by whose order, and days confined. The inmate record file can include admission and release information, photographs, property, and court material. Both series may be destroyed five years after release. That is a retention rule, not a promise of online access for five years.
Request Hart County Release Records
The elected Hart County Jailer operates the jail and is the first route for a jail register entry, admission and discharge record, or booking image. The Sheriff is a separate office and should receive requests only for Sheriff-created incident or arrest records. Start with the Jailer’s office to learn the current records custodian and the accepted delivery method.
- Identify the person with a full name, another identifier, and the approximate admission date.
- Call 270-524-2571 and confirm whether the custodian accepts email, mail, fax, or an in-person request.
- Ask for an existing jail register entry and admission/release record, not an explanation or newly created report.
- List the needed fields: admission, actual discharge time, authority, disposition, days confined, and transfer destination.
- Keep the agency response and compare the result with the related court case or receiving agency.

For a Kentucky DOC offender, use the DOC open-records process. Ask for the final discharge record, release date and type, releasable sentence calculation, or supervision discharge record. DOC lists ten cents per released paper page, $1 for a compact disc plus postage, and about $2.50 for a USB drive plus postage. Those are DOC charges, not confirmed Hart County Jailer fees.
Kentucky Release Record Access
Kentucky’s Open Records Act supplies the general access framework. KRS 61.872 permits a signed written request by hand, mail, fax, or email and says an agency may not require its own form. The statute includes a Kentucky-resident access provision that should be reviewed before filing. KRS 61.880 calls for a written determination within five days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, and provides a route for Attorney General review.
Public release facts do not make the whole inmate file public. An agency may redact or withhold juvenile, medical, victim, personal-identifier, security, sealed, expunged, or other protected material. KRS 61.874 allows a reasonable standard-copy fee based on actual reproduction cost and may permit advance payment and postage. Ask narrowly for the fields that confirm release.
Note: A retention period governs record management; it does not decide whether every field is open to public inspection.
Can Expungement Hide a Release?
Yes, a later blank search can be ambiguous. The Kentucky Court of Justice expungement process says qualifying acquittals and dismissals with prejudice entered after July 15, 2020 can be automatically expunged after 30 days, subject to an objection process. The court sends covered orders to the arresting agency and local jail. That can cause the public arrest and jail trail to disappear even though custody once occurred.
Other eligible cases follow different requirements and waiting periods. KRS 431.078 sets a five-year framework for eligible misdemeanors and violations measured from completion of sentence or successful probation, subject to statutory conditions. A judge grants expungement. A search service does not. Sealing, expungement, record destruction, spelling differences, and system lag are all reasons an old Hart County release may not appear in a later public search.
Note: Treat a blank post-expungement search as an unknown result, not proof that no prior jail stay occurred.
Find Hart County Released Inmates
Begin with the agency that actually held the person. The official Hart County jail portal is the local starting point, but no distinct official 24-hour or 72-hour released-person feed was verified. A person absent from the current view may be released, transferred, or simply not found by the search. Use this order:
- Check the jail portal only for current Hart County custody.
- Ask the Jailer for the admission/release entry and actual discharge disposition.
- Read the Hart County court case for a bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, or release order.
- Use KOOL if the person entered Kentucky DOC custody or supervision.
- Use VINE for a specific-person status check or future notification, then confirm an alert.
- Use BOP or ICE tools only when federal or immigration custody applies.
The 24-Hour Release List and 72-Hour Release List explain the defined-date request fallback because Hart County has no verified public rolling feed. For an older release, request the existing register entry rather than relying on a roster mirror. Give enough detail to distinguish similar names.
The official jail portal provides the local custody starting point.
Its current-custody view should be paired with the Jailer’s discharge record before calling someone released.
Kentucky Search for Hart Releases
Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, or KOOL, covers people in the Kentucky corrections system, former offenders retained there, and people under DOC supervision. It is not a complete Hart County booking archive. Start with the last name and first initial, then add a full name or alias only as needed. A DOC or PID number is much stronger than name alone. Open the detail result and read current status, location, sentence, parole eligibility, projected dates, and supervision fields together.
| KOOL search field | Best use |
|---|---|
| DOC or PID number | Confirm a specific state offender |
| Supervision Status | Check whether community supervision follows prison |
| County of Supervision | Route a Hart County match to District 5 |
| Location Type and Location | Distinguish prison, jail, or supervision context |
| Projected Release Date From / To | Search a scheduled range, not actual discharge |
| Offense and conviction fields | Separate people with similar names |
KOOL’s official FAQ says it updates four times daily, yet new data may not be final. The latest ten convictions are shown, and not all photos are available. A location of “Hart County Jail” is current state-corrections data at that site, not a released result. If the detail suggests prison custody ended, request the DOC discharge record. The Projected Release Date page explains why a scheduled date cannot substitute for completed discharge.
Note: A parole-eligibility date marks a stage when release may be considered; it does not show that release occurred.
Hart County Recent Release Search
No verified official Hart County recent-release archive, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, former-inmate filter, or Jailer app was found. Do not recast a current roster as a release list. For a same-day question, call the Jailer and request the actual discharge time, authority, disposition, and transfer destination. Then review VINE and the court docket. For a three-day span, state the exact dates and ask for existing daily admission/release entries for that interval.
Why did a released Hart County inmate vanish from the roster?
Live rosters are built for current custody. Once a record closes or custody transfers, the person may stop appearing, while the underlying jail register and court case remain with their custodians.
Online visibility and official retention are different. Kentucky’s County Jailer schedule allows the closed jail register and inmate file to be destroyed five years after release. That does not establish an online archive or guarantee that every part of the file is open. Request the right record series from the right custodian as soon as practical.
Why Hart Releases Need Two Checks
The Kentucky Auditor’s May 9, 2019 regional-jail snapshot treated the main jail and Hart JRC as separate rows. It reported 97 beds and 138 people at the main jail, including 35 state prisoners. Hart JRC showed 83 beds and 74 people, including 72 state prisoners. Neither row listed a federal prisoner. These are dated occupancy figures, not current counts or capacity claims.
The mix explains a key search issue. A Hart facility record may document the local admission and transfer or discharge, while KOOL documents the state-corrections status. A county detainee released on bond may never belong in KOOL. A state prisoner housed in Hart County may need both records. The custody source determines the search path.
Note: The Auditor figures describe one 2019 day and must not be used as Hart County’s current jail population.
Hart County Release Supervision
A person can leave prison and remain under parole, mandatory reentry supervision, or probation. That is community supervision, not prison custody. Hart County belongs to Kentucky DOC Probation and Parole District 5, which also covers Breckinridge and Grayson counties. Use KOOL’s Supervision Status, County of Supervision, Location, and Supervision Begin Date, then verify a Hart match through District 5.
- Parole
- Conditional community release before a state sentence expires.
- Probation
- A court disposition that may follow or avoid a custodial term.
- Mandatory reentry supervision
- Supervision for an eligible state offender during the final part of a sentence.
- Discharge
- The documented end of a custody or supervision status.
Probation is best traced through the Hart court docket because a judge imposes and may modify or revoke it. Parole comes from the Kentucky Parole Board. An absconded notation indicates an alleged failure to report or remain where required; it is not a release type. The Parole & Probation page provides the full District 5 and Board verification routes.
Help After a Hart County Release
Release verification and local support serve different needs. Hart County’s directory lists LifeSkills Hart County Counseling Center at 118 West Union Street in Munfordville for weekday mental-health, substance-use, and crisis services. The county also maintains a directory of local and regional AA and NA meetings.
These services do not confirm jail discharge, court status, parole, or probation. Use the Jailer, court clerk, KOOL, and District 5 for official status. The local listings can help a person or family locate support after the record has been verified.
Note: Support providers can help after release, but only the responsible government custodian can verify release or supervision status.
Hart Release Alerts and Federal Search
VINELink provides a specific-person custody check and registration for release, transfer, or escape notifications. Kentucky’s Attorney General says VINE covers local jails, adult correctional facilities, and certain juvenile offenders. When a person is not in custody, the service can supply a release date. VINE remains a notification and status tool, not the signed release order or jail register, so confirm any alert with the Jailer or DOC.
For a federal prison sentence, search the BOP Inmate Locator. It accepts federal identifying numbers or name and biographical filters. Results may show a release date and “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody,” but that status does not rule out another authority’s custody or later supervision.
The federal locator shows the correct separate search route.
Use it only for federal custody, not as a substitute for Hart County jail or Kentucky DOC records.
Where Hart Release Records Appear
Each system answers a narrow custody question. Read its coverage before treating a result or non-result as proof.
| System | Still in custody | Released-person evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Hart jail portal | Local current-custody starting point | Omission alone proves nothing |
| Jailer record | Admission and confinement entry | Actual discharge time, authority, type, destination |
| KOOL | Kentucky DOC location and status | Former-offender or supervision context when retained |
| Hart court case | Orders affecting detention | Bond, dismissal, sentence, or probation disposition |
| VINE | Participating custody status | Release date or alert, subject to verification |
| BOP locator | Federal prison status | Federal release date and location status |
Can a court release order and jail discharge show different times? Yes. A judge can sign an order before staff receive, verify, and process it. Another warrant or detainer may also prevent community release. The court explains the authority; the jail entry records the physical custody change.
Which Hart Court Ordered Release?
Hart County is part of Kentucky’s 10th Judicial Circuit and 10th Judicial District. The Circuit Court Clerk manages Circuit, Family, and District records at the Hart County Judicial Center. District Court commonly handles misdemeanors, preliminary felony matters, and many first appearances. Circuit Court handles felony prosecutions and other matters assigned by state law. Search the correct case and read its docket in date order.
Useful entries can include bond setting, recognizance, dismissal, indictment, plea, judgment, sentence, jail-time credit, probation, revocation, and satisfaction orders. The Hart County court information page identifies the local clerk route and the statewide Find a Case path.
The official court page connects the legal case with local clerk access.
Pair any court order with the jail or DOC discharge entry when the exact release time matters.
The Kentucky Court of Justice portal also provides the statewide entry to Find a Case.
Use the Hart County filter and matching case identifiers so a similar name is not mistaken for the person being sought.
ICE Status After Hart Custody
Transfer from Hart County Jail to immigration custody is not community release. Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System with a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact biographical fields. ICE describes the tool as covering people currently detained and some people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. It excludes minors, and records can lag or be absent.
A blank ICE result has several possible meanings. If the person cannot be located, the Detention Reporting and Information Line is available at 888-351-4024 on nonholiday weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern. ICE non-custody does not prove that a state or federal criminal case ended. No official source in the Hart research established a standing ICE detention unit at the county jail.
Hart County Release Facilities
Hart County Jail, at 520 AA Whitman Lane in Munfordville, is the main local custody point. Community release may follow bond, a court order, time served, or sentence completion. A transfer may instead lead to another jail, Kentucky DOC, federal custody, or another authority. Verify the route with the Jailer’s discharge entry.
Hart Jail Restricted Custody is a community or minimum-custody section of the Hart jail operation. Restricted custody and an authorized work assignment remain legal custody. A Kentucky State Police report about a 2023 work-release walkaway treated it as escape, not release. For a county participant, check the Jailer and court. For a state or Class D participant, add KOOL and DOC records.
Note: No separate state prison, federal prison, ICE center, or municipal adult lockup was verified within Hart County.
