Hart JRC Discharge Paths
Hart Jail Restricted Custody is a community or minimum-custody section of the Hart jail operation. A county participant may complete a local sentence or leave under a court order. A state or Class D participant may transfer to a Kentucky Department of Corrections institution, finish the prison term, enter parole, or begin mandatory reentry supervision. A warrant or detainer may keep custody in force under another agency.
Each path creates different proof. The Hart County Jailer’s admission, transfer, and final discharge entries document the local facility event. The court docket explains a county release order. Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, called KOOL, supplies state-offender status and supervision fields. District 5 becomes relevant when Hart County supervision follows.
| JRC event | What it means | Where to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Outside work assignment | Still in custody | Jailer |
| County sentence completion | Possible community discharge | Jailer and court |
| State transfer | Custody continues | Jailer and KOOL |
| Parole or reentry | Community status with supervision | KOOL and District 5 |
Confirm a Hart JRC Release
No JRC-specific public 24-hour or 72-hour release list, released-photo archive, update schedule, or official mobile app was verified. Use records matched to the person rather than treating a missing portal entry as a discharge.
- Gather the full name, birth date, approximate JRC dates, court case, and any DOC number.
- Ask the Hart County Jailer for the JRC admission, transfer, and final discharge entries.
- Review the Hart County court record for a county sentence or release order.
- For a state or Class D participant, search KOOL and request the Kentucky DOC record if the public detail is not enough.
- If KOOL shows Hart County supervision, verify through Kentucky DOC Probation and Parole District 5.
The Hart County released-inmate search also separates county, state, federal, and immigration paths. Use the system belonging to the authority that held the person. A projected date or parole eligibility date is not the actual JRC departure time.
Hart JRC Records Contact
No separate current public records contact for JRC was verified. Use the main jail and elected Jailer route. Hart County’s Sheriff is a distinct office and should not automatically receive a request for Jailer-created admission or discharge records. The Hart County Jail release page explains the shared local records route for the main facility.

Public office hours and a dedicated records email were not confirmed. Call before visiting. A focused written request should identify the participant and admission, then ask for the JRC admission, assignment status, transfer, and final discharge entries. Request the date, time, authority, release type, and destination already recorded by the office.
Hart JRC State Custody Mix
The Kentucky Auditor’s May 9, 2019 snapshot reported 83 beds and 74 people at Hart JRC. Two were county prisoners, 72 were state prisoners, and none were federal prisoners. These historical figures are not present capacity or population. They do show why state-record verification is especially important for this facility.
A state-heavy snapshot does not turn JRC into a separate state prison. The Hart County Jailer operated the section. It does mean that a person could leave JRC yet remain in DOC custody elsewhere, or enter a supervised status that KOOL continues to display.
Work Release Is Still Custody
An authorized outside assignment lets a participant leave the secure perimeter for a limited purpose. It is not final release from a sentence. The distinction matters when a family member sees someone outside the jail or hears that the person was assigned to work. Only the Jailer, court, and applicable DOC record can establish final discharge.
A 2023 Kentucky State Police report about a Hart County work-release walkaway treated the event as escape, not release. That source illustrates the legal boundary without saying anything about a current participant. An unauthorized departure does not erase custody or create a community release record.
The official image below comes from that Kentucky State Police custody report.

The source reinforces why presence outside the perimeter must not be confused with a completed Hart JRC discharge.
Hart JRC Record Retention
The Kentucky County Jailer records schedule says a closed jail register and inmate record file may be destroyed five years after release. A register can record discharge timing, authority, and days confined. The file may include admission and release data, court material, property records, and a photograph.
Retention authority does not guarantee that every record remains available or that every field is open. Lawful exemptions and redactions can apply. It also does not make the current portal a historical archive. Ask the Jailer which record series contains the JRC event and whether it is still held.
State Records After Hart JRC
The state-heavy 2019 snapshot makes a two-record check important. First, obtain the Jailer’s JRC entry showing whether the participant was discharged, transferred, or still assigned to another form of custody. Then identify the same person in KOOL with a DOC or PID number when possible. Read Current Location, Supervision Status, County of Supervision, and the sentence information together. A location at Hart County Jail signals a current state-corrections association with the jail, not release.
If KOOL shows a projected release date, treat it as a calculation rather than the final event. A parole eligibility date marks the point when review may occur and does not promise a grant. When the record shows Hart County community supervision, Kentucky DOC Probation and Parole District 5 is the verification route. District 5 covers Hart, Breckinridge, and Grayson counties, so the responsible office may not carry a Hart-only name.
A final state discharge record is stronger than an inferred status from a missing search result. Kentucky DOC can change a calculation after credit action, discipline, a corrected sentence, parole action, or another hold. Pairing that state record with the JRC transfer or discharge entry shows whether the person left all custody, moved to prison, or began supervised community status.
Hart JRC Discharge Record Fields
A focused request helps the Jailer locate the right JRC event without asking the office to create a new report. Give the participant’s full legal name, a second identifier, the approximate admission period, and the court or DOC number if known. Ask for facts already recorded in the JRC admission, assignment, transfer, and final discharge entries.
| Requested field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Admission date and identifier | Matches the correct JRC stay |
| Assignment or custody status | Distinguishes outside work from discharge |
| Actual discharge date and time | Documents the completed local event |
| Authority and release type | Shows the legal basis for departure |
| Transfer destination | Identifies continued custody elsewhere |
For a county participant, compare those fields with the Hart court order. For a state participant, compare them with KOOL and the DOC record. A photograph or sighting outside the facility does not answer any of these record questions.
After Hart JRC Discharge
Parole is supervised community release from a prison term. Probation is court-ordered supervision and may follow a local case. Mandatory reentry supervision is a statutory Kentucky transition near the end of some prison terms. None is the same as being held in JRC, but each can place rules on a person after confinement ends.
KOOL’s Supervision Status and County of Supervision fields are the online starting point for a state offender. Hart County belongs to DOC Probation and Parole District 5. Local recovery and counseling services can aid reentry, but they are not custody-record offices and cannot confirm discharge.
